First academic year at Olin
Teaching design, AI, innovation; learning the ropes.
One of my favorite things about academia is the regular yearly cycle and the opportunity it provides for reflection. In my first academic year at Olin, I've gotten to know fellow faculty, students, and the Olin Way and to consider how my experience and interests fit within our institution. I've now taught four classes (Designing with Emerging Technologies, Quantitative Engineering Analysis 1, Products and Markets, and Collaborative Design) and one co-curricular on AI. I've supported a couple of students' Independent Research Projects and will spend the summer with a small team of Summer Research Students with my colleague, Amon Millner. Because Olin embraces a co-teaching model for many courses, I've had the opportunity to teach with and learn from my colleagues. Given that I still teach a little bit at Brown, this year has been the most intensive teaching immersion of my life and I have loved it. I'm looking forward to taking what I have learned about what has worked and not worked. Based on these learnings, I'm looking forward to adapting my teaching and growing my research with students.
