Ethnography Of a Scratch Club When the Site Went Live

I conducted an investigation of Scratch while its online community went live in 2006. This ethnographic investigation followed an after-school Scratch club of 7th and 8th graders for eight months. I documented their experiences of the site’s initial limited release and subsequent rapid growth and revealed how the group were changed by the online community. Their experiences of the transition has shaped my understanding of how online communities support passion, creative work and collaboration.
